Vietnam-EU Free Trade Conference entitled «European Union - Vietnam A Free Trade Agreement: Leverage for Trade-Investment Cooperation in New Normal Conditions» took place in Hanoi, on October 27, 2021.

Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam Mr. Dang Hoang An made the welcoming remarks, followed by the head of the European Union Delegation to Vietnam Ambassador Giorgio Aliberti and President of the European Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam Alain Cany.

Mr. An briefly presented the trade turnover between the European Union and Vietnam in the framework of the European Union-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement, which entered into force since August 1, 2020. The Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam noted that Vietnam has become the EU's largest trading partner in the ASEAN region.

The head of the European Union delegation in Vietnam, Ambassador Giorgio Aliberti, emphasised that exports from Vietnam to the EU countries have increased by 20%, despite the spread of COVID-19.

Alain Cany, President of the European Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Vietnam, noted that the COVID-19 pandemic has had the profound far-reaching impact on trade and investments, around the world, including in Vietnam – in the spheres of tourism, aviation, gastronomie, etc.

Mr. Cany emphasized that long-running restrictions not only jeopardize investments but also has forced one in five companies to relocate at least part of their production to other countries.

After the welcoming speeches, panel discussions took place, followed by Q&A session.

Representatives of relevant Ministries of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, Diplomatic Missions and International Organizations accredited to the Socialist Republic of Vietnam attended the Vietnam-EU Free Trade Forum.

Aramazd Muradyan, Second Secretary of the Embassy of the Republic of Armenia to the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, participated in the conference entitled «European Union - Vietnam Free Trade Agreement - Leverage of Trade and Investment Cooperation in New Normal Conditions».
